  Onslow Salt

  

  This letter is a referral for Sitech WA Pty Ltd (formerly HL Solutions) as having provided Onslow Salt Pty Ltd

  with the sales, service and support required by our Solar Salt Operations at Onslow in Western Australia, since

  1999.

  Onslow Salt engaged the services of Sitech to provide an accurate positioning system for our purpose built Salt

  Harvester in 1999. The requirements were to position the cutting edge of the harvester to within 10‐20mm in

  elevation across the span of the evaporation pond 700m x 900m and to be able to be relocated to the 12 other

  crystalliser ponds, easily. The intent was to produce a model of the floor allowing extraction of as much salt as

  possible, and to accurately record the volume of material that was removed from each pond. In addition, after

  each harvest was required to have a finished surface that was as close to level as possible assisting in drainage

  and preparation time for each pond. .

  The initial system used a long range optical total station with high accuracy tracking of a 360 degree target on

  the harvester. The Geodimeter 4400 ATS worked successfully on the harvester for several years with the full

  service and support from Sitech WA.

  We then moved to another model of harvester, using the Wirtgen 2000 profiler with conveyor to load the

  truck and‐engaged the services of Sitech to come up with a solution for this machine in 2004. They provided a

  Trimble GPS solution and with the assistance of our workshop team and Wirtgen providing full automation for

  drum lift to control cutting depth. This resulted in a smooth finished floor and improved our drainage time for

  each pond from 10 days to 5 days. Another 2 Trimble SiteVision and GCS900 GPS systems were deployed on

  other harvesters and graders with auto ripper control, which we currently use.

  We are intending to purchase another grader and will be deploying Sitech to fit up this new machine with

  Trimble Machine Control. We recommend Sitech WA to anyone with Mining or Machine Control applications

  as their understanding of our Mining needs in a harsh environment and local service and support is

  outstanding.

  UEA Civil and Mining has been using Trimble Grade control systems for over three years in the mining industry. We have utilised 2 different grade control systems and software packages. The key qualities of the technology that have been made it ideal for this environment is that it is rugged reliability, simplicity, versatility and its high precision.

  The application of the technology to the Vermeer T1255 surface miners exposes it to severe vibrations and high dust levels among other environmental conditions that are usually detrimental to the high precision hardware. The Trimble grade control systems have proved resilient to this environment and they perform consistently in the roughest conditions.

  The systems modular natures make them easy to mange and install. The simple user interface and the system's ability to directly control the machines hydraulics make it an ideal system to operate. The precision if the system used by UEA Civil and Mining can be set depending on the specifications of the work. They usually operate within a tolerance of 30mm.

  The training and support offered by SitechWA has been paramount in UEA's success with the systems. The product support service given to UEA by SitechWA consisting of available knowledgeable, communicative staff has been a permanent asset to UEA.

  I would highly recommend the use of the Trimble Systems provided by SitechWA for any potential application in the mining industry.
